One of the biggest trends this season are menswear checks and shoulder pads. Talk about going back in time right?! I remember when my mom used to wear the same thing in the late 1990s. I was a young girl then, and sometimes used to make fun of what she wore. Now, I’m asking if she still has some of her old pieces. Well, I’m taking 1990s working moms as inspiration to create this modernized menswear look for you in this post. It is a look that can easily be done and is definitely worth trying out this fall/ winter.
These menswear inspired check blazers can be found at a bunch of retail stores (I have linked some great options below) at every price point. This oversized blazer from Bershka is a lot of blazer for a petite woman, so the belt cinching at the waist is key. It draws the attention to the waist and helps create definition. Otherwise, I would look twenty pounds heavier. This Bershka blazer came with a belt but any wide belt would look great. I recommend wearing a belt the color of your shoes or bags. I love when accessories match. It is a great way of tying a whole look together. I paired this boyish blazer with a sultry dress to create an unexpected juxtaposition. Fashion is fun when you wear something that is totally unexpected. This dress works because it actually has a lot of coverage (even though it is actually sheer). A long sleeve peeking out of the blazer is a great little detail. Another option is a little black dress or even a pair of slacks and white t-shirt. The options are truly endless. When the temperatures get even cooler, wear a chunky turtleneck sweater dress. Ladies, lets conquer menswear!
