You may have seen a well-dressed person and thought to yourself, “Wow, they look so put together”. Chances are, they may have been wearing a monochrome outfit. Monochromatic dressing is when the head-to-toe look consists of wearing only one color. It is incredibly flattering as it elongates your figure (especially great for all my petite friends) and very classy.

Have you noticed that in past presidential inaugurations or political events, The First Lady is usually dressed in a monochrome outfit? It is a classic nod to past elections. The First Ladies tend to wear an ensemble that complements the president while not overpowering them- hence wearing one color for simplicity.

Now I know monochromatic dressing can seem quite intimidating. However, I assure you it is not! Just follow these four simple steps and you will look as polished as The First Lady in no time!

I am sharing three key tips to pulling off any monochromatic outfit below:

Mix Textures

In my opinion, the most important aspect of putting together a monochrome outfit is mixing a combination of different fabrics. The different textures in the same color add a lot of interest to an outfit. I recommend mixing leather with chunky knits, silk with organza, crepe with lace, or tweed with wool. The best part is that you can mix as many textures as you want!

Wear Co-Ord Sets

Love the way monochromatic outfits look, but don't know where to exactly start? This is the simplest strategy. Start by purchasing a coordinating set. When it is from the same brand, your colors and fabrics will be made of the same material and color, no matter if it is a suit or sweater set. Wear Different Shades and Tints of the Same Color

My third tip is to pick one color and wear different shades or tints of that same family. For example, I’m wearing purple but I am combining violet and a light lavender to complete the look. If you don't have a full outfit in the same color, feel free to wear other colors from the same family. The attire will still appear polished but by combining the darker shades, your look will be interesting.

Match Accessories To Your Clothes

A simple yet coordinated way to wear a monochromatic look is by wearing accessories that are the same color as your clothes.
